Charcoal Bricks: Build Your Future In Safety

How many days will we live on Earth? When will the great flood? We may not live much longer, the cataclysm may be coming. The recent flash floods in northern India may have given us that message.

The beautiful landscape created by God’s own hands is all his grace and his environment is made by our hands. The tumultuous state of Himachal in India is an unforgettable example of environmental disaster.

For the people of that area, this is really a great deluge. Although the story is of India, the whole world should learn from it. The stories of the environmental movement are also old. Now it’s time to just stop it from everyone’s position.

New houses, towns, suburbs, and cities are constantly being planned to accommodate the growing number of people. Implementation is at the same pace. So you have to see the dream of survival before getting a place.

New construction should not erase the dream of modern civilization, so only eco-friendly construction can make our Bashundhara livable.

Statistics show that every year 4-15 percent of carbon is released into nature due to unplanned development and mismanagement of the construction industry. Air, oxygen, and our lungs are toxic.

The wind is heavy with dust, dust, and sand from demolished old buildings, and construction waste is landfilled, increasing the risk of high-level earthquakes. That’s why experts claim that the construction industry is playing a special role in global warming (Eshadandhash Dodhatsarham) and climate change.

Their advice is that it is the need of the hour to get out of the traditional industry and make our future plans eco-friendly. Factories are emitting tons and tons of carbon every day to supply bricks and cement used in construction which is a big threat to our survival.

Many countries have already moved forward as an alternative to the widely used construction material brick, some are thinking, where are we?

Bangladeshis, who were once below the poverty line, feel proud to be able to put up walls even in mud houses. In such a competition, the village courtyards are covered with sand, concrete, and cement sheets.

In this situation, there is no other option but to think of brick as an alternative. The alternative bricks are green brick, organic brick, or charcoal bricks.

This eco-friendly brick will not only increase the durability of the construction but also bring back the biodiversity to nature. Green Charcoal Bricks are the result of practice-based research combining material innovation and technology.

The research aims to develop various new bio-based construction materials to combat rising pollution and temperature by inventing healthy materials for building construction.

It is a system made by combining charcoal, organic loofah fiber, soil, and air through which the bricks or blocks produced are resistant to bacteria and light in weight.

Not only that, its surface also provides an environment for the growth of plant and insect ecosystems. The level of greenery in our cities is very low.

Hence, such construction materials are essential to make urban living healthy and ensure natural biodiversity in the city. Using charcoal bricks in any establishment will make the environment very healthy and comfortable.

What Are Green Charcoal Bricks?

Researchers at Mumbai’s Indian School of Design and Innovation (OZHUO) have developed a type of brick that they call charcoal organic bricks or green charcoal bricks, using organic materials as an alternative to conventional bricks.

The specialty of these bricks is that plants and insects can breed in them. The reason why charcoal bricks are called organic bricks is because so much organic material is used. These bricks are made of clay, cement, charcoal, and loofah fiber.

Loofah is a very popular vegetable. Even better known is loofah fiber. Luffah fiber is popular worldwide as a dish scrubber or bathroom shower flower.

Another important component of charcoal bricks is air. Green charcoal has 20 times more air pockets than normal concrete blocks, which helps in the shelter and growth of microorganisms and also keeps the indoor environment cool.

Because these air bubbles create voids in the loofah fibers. This construction material was invented by researchers Shreyas More and Minal Sutaria.

Why Are Charcoal Bricks So Important?

Biodegradable bricks or charcoal bricks have multi-dimensional benefits as they are made of organic material. These facilities will not only ensure comfortable living but can also play a major role in our physical and mental development, economic development, and environmental development.

  • Living in biophilic spaces made of such organic materials makes people feel good and they are very happy. Due to the healthy environment, diseases are quickly alleviated. Students become more attentive, and productivity increases in prisons.
  • The use of green charcoal bricks in the houses along the road also adds to the visual appeal. However, the use of this type of brick in road dividers or boundaries of houses not only enhances the aesthetics but also keeps the air clean. Reduces temperature rise. Above all, it also inspires positive behaviors in people.
  • In addition to protecting biodiversity, charcoal bricks also keep the indoor environment much cooler as the use of these bricks allows a lot of air to circulate in the house.
  • Green Charcoal Bricks use 54% organic material and 21% air pockets. It uses 4% cement and 4% other fine materials like sand, gravel, etc.

Inventor’s Idea

Green Charcoal Bricks are a healthy construction material developed by the Indian School of Design and Innovation, Mumbai. Charcoal is only one component of this building material that resides on its surface.

Soil is also used in moderation. Charcoal cleans the air by absorbing nitrates from the soil. Also, nitrogen is a very nutritious food for plants.

They believe that the use of such organic bricks will create a connection between man and nature.

Green charcoal bricks are much lighter in weight than normal bricks. An even bigger advantage is that its organic ingredients will also help keep your installation environment biodegradable.

Since the use of sand is also less in the construction of this type of brick, natural resources will also be saved. Excessive sand extraction is also a cause of natural disasters, so it must be said that the role of Green Charcoal Bricks in preventing natural disasters is not less.

Surprisingly, the constant truth is that using this type of brick will also reduce the use of additional metal strength (rod, steel, etc.). In this case, loofah fibers play a special role as a strong material.

Recently, researchers of the institute have been working on new sustainable construction materials. They call on architects to collaborate with researchers and engineers to develop more timely, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly building materials.

The feature started with the story of floods in India and ended with a happy message from a research institute in India.

This novel invention of researchers from the Indian School of Design and Innovation in Mumbai will not only spread to neighboring countries like India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal, Bhutan.

Green Charcoal Bricks, an eco-friendly building material, can respond worldwide if passes long-term tests.
