What you must know before buying a geyser

We use various gadgets in our daily life. Air conditioners (AC) in summer and geysers in winter are nothing new. We seek more comfort and ease whenever we can. Although the severity of winter this year is not too much, the market for winter materials does not stop.

Geyser is one such gadget which is mostly used in winter, smoke is also sold in the market. So, if we as geyser users do not have good knowledge about geysers, there may be trouble. Because geysers can cause accidents if not used properly. To avoid these unwanted accidents, let’s see the beginning of the geyser.

What is a geyser?

Geyser (Ebungabat) is an English word whose Bengali equivalent is geyser. It is an electric device from which water rises intermittently in a column of steam. Simply put, a geyser is an electrical device and home gadget that is a special device for heating water. It is usually placed in the shower or bathroom. Geysers are connected to electricity and water lines for heating water. As a result, water can be heated in a short time by pressing the switch.

How many types of geysers?

Geezer is known as a water heater but there are two types of it. One is the electric geyser which is the most popular and widely used and the other is the gas-powered geyser.

Electric geyser

An electric geyser is a device that heats water using electricity. The water stored in the electric geyser is heated to the required temperature through an electric heater, but it also has many other technical facilities.

Gas geyser

Gas geyser is also a type of geyser like electric geyser but the only difference is that the heat source of this type of geyser is gas. Gas geysers are heated by using liquid gas (LPG) to heat the water stored in it to the required level. To protect the geyser from overheating, the gas geyser has a double solenoid valve that automatically stops the flow of gas when the water reaches a certain temperature.

How does a geyser work?

A geyser heats cold water in a normal water heater system. An electric geyser is one such gadget also known as an electric water heater. Cold water is also heated by converting electrical energy into thermal energy in various household activities or industries.

Gas geysers also work on the same principles of physics. However, the use of gas geysers is almost non-existent at present. Below is a general idea of how an electric geyser works:

Heating Materials

The main component of an electric geyser is the heating element, which is usually made of a resistant material such as nichrome. The heating element is immersed in water and performs the task of converting electrical energy into heat.

Thermostat

Almost all types of geysers are equipped with a thermostat. It contains a temperature-sensitive device that monitors and monitors the temperature of the water. When the water temperature drops below the desired temperature, the thermostat signals the heating element to turn on and start heating the water.

Cold water inlet and hot water outlet

Geysers have separate pipes for cold water inlet and hot water outlet. Cold water enters the tank through the inlet (input) pipe, and hot water is taken out through the outlet pipe.

Choban Tube or Deep Tube

Inside the geyser tank, there is a dip tube that is used to introduce cold water under the geyser tank. Due to the installation of this tube or pipe with the open face downwards, it also takes time for the cold water to mix with the hot water in the upper part of the geyser tank, thereby maintaining the temperature of the hot water for a long time.

Heating process

When the thermostat in the geyser detects that the water temperature has dropped below the set temperature, it activates the heating element. At this stage, the electric current passing through the heating resistive material generates heat which raises the temperature of the water in the tank.

Temperature Control

As the water in the geyser tank heats up, the thermostat continuously monitors and monitors the temperature. Once the water in the tank reaches the desired temperature, the thermostat signals the heating element to turn off. As a result, the water in the tank no longer overheats.

Storage tank

Almost all geysers usually have a storage tank that holds a certain amount of hot water. It allows users to use the heated water for various purposes. This tank water can be supplied anywhere in the bathroom, toilet, or kitchen.

Things to consider before buying a geyser

Many people choose geysers to get hot water faster than the time it takes to make hot water in an electrical water heater or stove. Its biggest advantage is that once the geyser water is heated, it can be used for a long time. In this way, there is no additional electricity consumption for heating water repeatedly. Thus geyser is very popular as an alternative system to a stove or electrical water heater.

But many people are too excited while buying a geyser, so many things to do go out of their heads. If such a mistake is made, many accidents happen from the geyser. So it is important to know what you should think about before buying a geyser.

Place setting

Before buying a geyser, think about where you will set it up. The geyser can be set anywhere, indoors and outdoors. So before buying, think about where you will place the geyser and select the appropriate geyser.

Whether to buy a metal body geyser or a plastic or ceramic body geyser for outdoor use, if it is not selected correctly, inconsistencies may occur in use, and accidents may also occur. But mostly we install geysers in the bathroom or shower room.

The amount of space required to install the geyser will actually depend on the capacity of the geyser. And so before planning to install the geyser, you can safely install the geyser only after measuring the size of the geyser and the space inside the bathroom.

Care must be taken while installing the geyser, that it should not be placed in a wet or damp place. And so if the geyser is planned to be placed inside the bathroom, it must be placed away from the bathtub and shower area.

A high place should be selected for placing the geyser. But the switch to turn the geyser on or off must be within reach.

Power connection

The place where the geyser is installed must have a fault-free electrical connection. So before installing the geyser, it is better to check the electrical connection with the help of a qualified electrician.

The most common accident in geysers is shock. So wherever the geyser is placed try to place the switch in a safe place. If the geyser is installed in the bathroom, the switch should be installed outside the bathroom.

However, you must avoid using the switch with wet hands. Check whether the connected power line has sufficient voltage. Moreover, accidents like fire can occur even if the cable with heavy load capacity is not used. So use a suitable circuit breaker before the switch to ensure added safety.

Water lines, pipes

The water line must be checked thoroughly while installing the geyser. The geyser should be installed only after checking whether the water is coming and going through the line or pipe properly.

Apart from this, the water pipe should be clean and should not be blocked by any kind of dirt. Even if an adequate amount of water is not flowing through the pipe, it should be activated first, only then the geyser should be installed.

You should never install a geyser yourself to get everything right. Firstly it is an electric gadget, secondly, it has a lot of technical issues so the installation of a geyser cannot be done without a technician who is skilled in geyser installation.

A geyser weighs roughly when empty but weighs quite a bit when filled with water, so it should be placed on a solid surface that can support its weight.

What to do as a user after installing the geyser?

  1. Most of the geysers available in the market today are state-of-the-art. However, we should be careful when using it. Modern geysers of better quality can heat water very quickly. That is why one should not wait long after switching on the geyser. Leaving the switch on for too long will overheat the water and increase the chance of accidents. So, before use, allow the water to heat up for 5-10 minutes, then turn off the switch and use it.
  2. Most of the geysers used in our country are electric geysers whose main source of thermal energy is electricity. So keep the temperature in the gadget low to prevent wastage of electricity in the geyser. It will also heat the water quickly and will not put extra pressure on the machine. Even in this way, you don’t have to spend money frequently on geyser repairs.
  3. If your geyser unit is large, check the anode rod inside the geyser. It is used to prevent tank corrosion, so it needs to be replaced every three years.
  4. It is important to check the pressure valve at least once a year for leaks.
  5. Check for any burnt spots between the power socket and the plug. If you notice any scorch marks from a short circuit, you can definitely use a good-quality circuit breaker. Adding a circuit breaker at the time of installation will increase the safety manifold to avoid accidents caused by short circuits.
  6. Metal or metallic parts should be used instead of plastic parts. Although the initial cost may be a bit higher due to this, as the metal is quite strong, it will be durable and can be used safely for a long time.

Geyser is one such gadget which is absolutely necessary in winter but many people use geyser in hot days as well. Some may use geysers for bathing and some may use geyser for cooking or other purposes almost throughout the year. With the modernity of time, geysers have also improved a lot. The geysers that were used earlier used to consume a lot of electricity. Currently geysers are available in the market with very low electricity consumption. Some companies also guarantee that the geyser can be used for the whole month within a maximum of 100 taka electricity bill. The use of geysers is increasing day by day due to various reasons. In the comfortable and comfortable life of people, the current winter does not go without geysers.
